By Roger Johnson, CSI, CCCA
President, Denver Chapter CSI

I would like to thank all of the members and guests that attended the Membership Meeting on September 9th, and hope to see you again at the next Membership Meeting on October 14th. For those members not in attendance, the program included the presentation of awards by Past-President Dean Leschak, to the Denver Chapter’s Summit Sponsors for 2007-08 as well as recognition of service to the Chapter by board members and chairs during Dean’s presidency. (See photos on Page 3.)

Following the awards presentation, Greg Markling, Principal at MOA Architects and Vice-President at CSI, provided a brief overview of his involvement at Institute and some of his goals for his two-year term that continues until 2010. Joy Davis, CSI Web Content Manager, provided an overview of activities at CSI this year, including improvements for member communications, increased Webinar education programs, and goals to increase chapter memberships.
Greg’s involvement with CSI has him on three committees and two task teams. Certification programs offered by CSI will one of his main areas of interest. The CDT program is currently being reviewed by a select group of professionals and non-professionals for a “Body of Knowledge Analysis” in order to assure that the education and focus of the program is current and coordinated with the testing procedures; this effort will result in an Integrated CDT Program that will be in use by Fall 2009. In addition, a new Certification program is being developed for Integrated Project Delivery that will recognize BIM content areas related to construction documents. The National CADD Standards are important to CSI and an industry survey that will be conducted by Pro-Metric in order to assist CSI in developing a Body of Knowledge for the standards.

Joy noted some of the activities at CSI that include “the Green Format” which will be initiated in November 2008 for presenting “green” product information to Architects and Engineers; this program is in the final phases of testing. Also, a BIM practice group is working on assembling information on best practices and how to disseminate this information. In addition, CSI Institute will be providing two Webinars each week to expand the base of education for LEED, Specs 101, Legal Issues and many other areas of interest. Finally, ICSI will be working with chapters to grow membership by 3% this year and will also be developing a new “home” website to be operational in Spring 2009.
